Based on 'Ole Riley' by Leadbelly. When prisoners escaped from prison farms they would try to 'walk the water', run through rivers and streams to hide the scent from the dogs sent to hunt them down. 'Rattler' is the name of one of the the dogs in this case
lyrics
Old Riley walked the water
On a long hot summer day
Old Riley walked the water
On a long hot summer day
Old Riley's gone like a turkey through the corn
Hey, Rattler, yay
Old Riley’s gone like a turkey through the corn
Yay Rattler yay
He walked the water Riley’s gone He walked the water
Old Rattler come when I blow my horn
Rattler come when I blow my horn
Old Rattler's got him a marrow bone Old Rattler's got him a marrow bone
Yay Rattler, yay
Old Rattler's got him a marrow bone
Hey Rattler yay
He walked the water Riley’s gone He walked the water
Old Riley took a walk on a long hot summer’s day Old Riley took a walk on a long hot summer’s day
Old Riley's gone like a turkey through the corn
Hey Rattler yay
Old Riley’s gone like a turkey through the corn Hey Rattler yay
He walked the water He walked the water He’s gone Riley’s gone
