about

Rufus Buck and his gang were hung by George Maladon in 1896. Rufus wrote a poem to his mother when he was in his cell. This is the poem in its entirety. I added my own verse to round the song off

lyrics

I dreamt I went to Heaven amongst the angels fair, I never seen so handsome that twining golden hair
They looked so neat they sang so sweet and played the golden harp, I was about to pick one out and take her to my heart
The moment I began to plea I thought of you my love, there’s none I seen so beautiful on earth or Heaven above
Well now the dream is ended and the angels have all gone, devils I see around me and the noose of Maladon
